Paper Maché Sugar Skull Mask Decorating

  • Arts Connect 909 South Kansas Avenue Topeka, KS, 66612 United States (map)

Join us for paper mache sugar skull mask decorating in honor of Dia de Muertos. Throughout Mexican history, even in pre-Columbian times, mask making was central to the indigenous peoples of Mexico. With Dia de Muertos the skeleton mask is a way to participate in the holiday, which is celebrated not only in Mexico, but in Mexican communities across the United States. The sugar skull mask is a way to remember those that have passed and the reality of the life, death and rebirth that indigenous cultures embraced.  There is also a playfulness and creativity that Mexicans have developed through the generations with the realities of death. Death is not separate in Mexican culture but is an inherent part of life's teachings.

Cost: $15
